Inclusion of human rights in school and college curricula has been strongly mooted during the International Human Rights Day which was organized by AMSU at Hotel Nirmala today.
Former president of the student body Ng Nongyai attended the function as chief gust while AMSU president O Shyamchand and ex-general secretary of AMSU K Langamba attended as president and guest of honor respectively.
A seminar on the theme, �Human Rights Movement in Manipur: Problems and Prospects,� was held during the function.
Babloo Loitongbam, Executive Director Human Rights Alert and Dr N Vijaylakshmi Brara, Convenor, People�s Union for Civil Liberties, Manipur presented papers on the theme of the seminar.
Speaking at the occasion Ng Nongyai said that rights and duties must go together and awareness of out rights and duties is required if we are to protect our rights.
�Inclusion of human rights in the syllabus of schools and colleges would help in understanding our rights and duties,� he said.
O Shyamchand in his presidential speech said the people should go beyond atrocities committed by security forces while talking about rights abuses.
Legal awareness programmes dealing with human rights violation will be organized by AMSU soon, he announced.
Two films entitled, �Sanamacha�s Story� and �Lesser Human� respectively produced by WITNESS and DRISHTI were screened during the function.
On the other hand around 500 nurses of the state took out a rally in connection with the International Human Rights Day.
The nurses carried play-cards written with words �no mental pressure on nurses, Nurses are for all, provide adequate protection to nurses and establish Nursing Council of Manipur�, etc.
